Saturday, day 5, arrived at Tortola mid-morning. Another warm (some would say hot?), sunny day and this port looked more developed. Still has the tourist shops at the end of the pier, but also more welcoming.
Norman Island Excursion
We selected a sail and snorkel excursion through NCL. It was well organized and we boarded the catamaran near the entrance to port. The local staff was super friendly, fun and knowledgeable.
Our destination was Norman Island, which is fairly rich with history. It is rumored to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island and has a documented history of pirate booty being stowed on the island dating back to 1750.
We snorkeled in two locations around the Bight harbor. We didn’t see a lot of fish, but did see some type of ray & a cute turtle. There was a barracuda at the back of the boat as we were getting back on the cat.
